I wrote this post four years ago, and I keep getting requests for these sweet cards you can print for your kids at camp. So, even though summer’s halfway over, I thought I’d remake the cards and share them again. Enjoy! For most of us, reminiscing about the summers of our childhood brings back happy memories of sticky watermelon juice dripping from our chins, writing our names in the air with sparklers on the 4th of July, catching fireflies in an old peanut butter jar…. and summer camp. A lot has changed since then the purest joys of summer are still just one screen door away from the greatest adventures that an outdoor summer can offer. This summer, if you have kids at camp (whether it’s church camp or scout camp or sports camp), these prayer prompts and printable cards are just for you!
The Lost Art of Letter Writing
“To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart.” Phyllis Theroux
My fab five now range in age from 15-23, but when my kids used to go to camp, they all got a daily card from Mama. My oldest two served as camp counselors and they were well stocked with daily words of encouragement, as well. Despite the fact that my hand cramps when I write, sending them off with handwritten notes is still one of my favorite things to do all year.
There’s just something about a handwritten note.
A simple word of encouragement, a Scripture, a prayer, a funny joke, or a picture can mean the world to a child who is missing home and can brighten the day of any sun-burnt, tired, wifi-deprived camper. I believe this so much that I took the time to make some FREE printable cards that you can cut out and tuck away in your child’s luggage this summer. But more on that in a bit…
Prayer Prompts for Your Kids at Camp
In addition to the obvious prayer concerns for your kids at camp (such as avoiding snake bites, eating proper meals, and not getting homesick), there are many other great opportunities to boost your prayer life while lifting up your campers. Camp adventures provide just the right amount of time away from home to inspire personal growth, self-sufficiency, responsibility, maturity, and a maybe even a little bit of reflection and perspective.
Whether your kids are attending a Christian or secular camp, consider these prayer prompts while your kids are at camp this summer:
*Pray for your child’s physical health and safety. *Pray for your child to develop healthy relationships with camp counselors and leaders that will be good role models in her/her life. *Pray for God to speak to your child through nature. It’s easy to forget how BIG God is when you’re inside the house, glued to your gadgets, but time in the great outdoors can be a great reminder of His majesty. *Pray for your child’s camp counselors. Pray they will see things in your child that you may not notice and that they will speak truth into those places. *Pray blessings over the counselors for investing in your child. *Pray for restful sleep so your camper can wake refreshed every day. *Pray for your child to make godly friendships at camp. *Pray for your child to be a blessing to someone else. *Pray for your child to learn how to rely on God more in your absence. *Pray that your child develops a deeper desire to know Him more.
